The Pain in my Smile

I am chronicling my story with the intent on helping victims and survivors of rape, abuse and violence who are struggling with the same or similar dreadful issues I've endured. My intent is to help wounded people realize there is hope-that it's possible for the sun to shine again. I have travelled a long road. It was painful and seemingly endless. Yes, I fought rejections, disappointment, heartaches, abuse, and untold challenges. I have been raped, famished, and homeless. There have been times when I wanted to give up, but through God, I always managed to bounce back. In desperation, I once attempted to take my own life. However, through God's intervention I come to the realization that I have a definite purpose for which to live. Hence, I tell my story to empower struggling souls seemingly trapped in the quagmire of oppression. My motto: "If I can help somebody as I pass along, my living shall not be in vain." This mantra and my story is a legacy to my grandchildren. Knowledge of my suffering and triumph over adversity in the annals of their history, hopefully, will become a catalyst for breaking cycles of abuse, rape, and violence. The journey hasn't been easy. I stand today as a testament to what humans can achieve through virtues of faith, perseverance, and determination.
