Orchid Thomas, a seventeen-year-old girl who became blind nine years prior to a tragic accident is growing up with her grandparents during the summer of the year 2000. While nostalgic music and the amiable yet rebellious Ryker Feldspar are her best friends, her ability to see only in her dreams is the closest thing she has to her memory and is everything but ordinary. Orchid has been to many therapists, psychologists, optometrists, and ophthalmologists for answers with these dreams and their connection with her eyesight, but their empty claims have been useless. As her dreams begin to form into an ordeal reality, she continues to see a girl that looks like herself . . . but it isn't. This mysterious girl in Orchid's dreams doesn't only hint to Orchid about future upbringings but she also tells Orchid the harrowing, dark secrets of her family's past. It isn't until Orchid gets into another accident where she begins to actually see the real world, the meaning behind her dreams, true love, and a human's true capability of strength when one sense is involuntarily taken away.
