Kircubbin, (and hereabouts) on the Ards Peninsula of County Down
Brian Bailie
Kircubbin today is best known for being an annoying bottleneck on the A20 due to carelessly parked vehicles; that place where Duckie lives; or that village where the only remarkable landmark is needlessly crumbling into the sea. This book hopes to illustrate just how important Kircubbin once was: how it was once a central hub of industry and agricultural activity on the peninsula; how its people influenced and contributed to major national events on this island; and perhaps in reading these accounts, apathy will be replaced with a sense of community pride. The inspiration for this book is not in response to local interest, but from the peculiar interest from people all over the world who share ancestral links to this place, (and hereabouts), and are keen to learn more about where their predecessors lived, and the times they lived through.
