The year is 1968. Five-year-old Jeremy Hergenroeder, a minister's kid, sits in a hospital ER three rooms down from his kidnappers, Pilar and Ricardo Gutierrez. They'd snatched him earlier in the day right off the schoolyard during recess. Planning to use Jeremy's mind-reading gift to expand their mob's trucking operations and get a leg up on the competition, the Gutierrez cousins and their boss, José, figured they'd need Jeremy's psychiatrist to lend a hand. The Gutierrez gang, the Rican Rangers, stumbled on Jeremy's secret after they beat up Dan Brodie, who'd lied to them to get a mob loan. Dan tried to trade Jeremy for payment-in-full after his wife, Velma, learned of Jeremy's gift as she typed up his psychiatry chart. Velma's boss, Dr. Azriel Rebovitz, found out too late to help Jeremy. At the last possible minute, Hergenroeder family friend, Col. Ed McPherson, dashed the Rangers' plans when he shot Pilar and Ricardo from a nearby rooftop as they arrived to nab Dr. Rebovitz. In this sequel to The Chase is On, Jeremy must use all of his skills to save himself and his family from the marauding Rican Ranger gang. Jeremy's troubles start right there in the hospital and, so, The Chase Continues.
