Green Eyes

After winning at Texas Holdem I decided to show Kate my good fortune and after buying a round of drinks, I headed for Kate's.

This area of town wasn't the safest place to be walking at night, so I planned on hailing a cab, as soon as one came by. I had only gone five or six blocks, when a punk came out of an alley with a knife, and demanded my wallet. I laughed at him thinking he doesn't know what I have under my arm, and he was about to get the surprise of his life. Then something hit me on the head from behind. My head was buzzing like mad, and I knew I was in trouble. I tried to stay on my feet, reaching for my .38, but got hit again and again. I don't know how much time had passed, when I came to on the concrete, but I was in a lot of pain. I could feel the blood gushing out of my head, and running down my face. I knew I better get some help soon, or I would probably bleed to death. I kept stumbling forward, not really aware of where I was headed. I was having real difficulty seeing things clearly, and to make it worse, everything seemed to be turning in circles. I saw a man coming toward me, and I reached out for him but he just looked at me very strangely as he backed away. I looked up at him, and I could have sworn he had green light, coming out of his eyes. I was really worried that I wouldn't make it. I had already been walking, or should I say stumbling, for what seemed like a long time. Two different times I felt myself coming to again, leaning against a wall, and then I would try continuing on. Finally, I realized I was on an elevator going up. When it opened, I saw the door that I had seen many times before. I was at Kate's. I fell against the door, and tried knocking with my hand, but I was not sure if I was hitting it hard enough to make a noise. The door opened, and I fell inside and lay there, looking up at Kate. "My God, Jerry! What has happened to you?" Soon after, I awoke, feeling a cold towel on my head. Kate was holding it there and talking on the phone. The next thing I was aware of, I was on a bed with wheels, and lights were passing over my head, and I could hear voices. Later I awoke in a hospital bed, with my head wrapped up like a mummy, my right eye completely covered. I was barely able to look over to my left, and see Kate sleeping in a chair.
