For race official Markus Fanger and his reluctant helper, Donjek Stoneman, a brief lull at their checkpoint shatters when Muslim racer Omar Ahmed arrives, battered and blue. In short order, Fanger and Donjek discover the extreme athlete is also an extreme militant. From Dawson City, Yukon, to Fort Greely, Alaska, the race is on to defend northern sovereignty. Against a backdrop of the North's beauty and brutality, within the tension of a daring endurance race, it's up to the local heroes to keep a terrorist from his target, Ground-based Missile Defense.
