G. R. Gleig
George Gleig was a Scottish soldier and military writer. Gleig was a divinity student who entered the army as a Chaplain-General. He was sent to the United States where he was in five battles and was wounded three times. After he left the army he returned to his studies in Oxford. Gleig kept a journal of the campaign against Washington and New Orleans and from this journal he wrote this work. This is a definitive historical account of these battles.
