The Veil
Brian C. Hales
Through the Restoration we have learned that the veil may be divided into four segments, each separating us from a specific realm of eternity. The first conceals the premortal world. The second portion hides God and His angels from our perception. A third section covers Satan and his followers who "encompasseth us round about" (D&C 76:29). The fourth obscures the spirit world and everything that lies beyond death.
The veil is thick for mortals. Faith is the process through which we figuratively reach through the veil to embrace eternal truths into our hearts. Besides a gentle thinning of the veil by using faith, the scriptures abound in the description of individuals who were priviledged to pierce the veil entirely.
Purifying ourselves brings us face to face with another veil less familiar to us, but perhaps even more important is the veil covering our hearts. This veil can also be conquered in this life.
