Stories taken from the history of New Zealand's only 24/7 dedicated long range search and rescue squadron, flying the Lockheed P3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft. 5 Squadron RNZAF covers a vast expanse of ocean, responsible for an area from Antarctica up to the Equator and covering many other Pacific nations EEZ and territorial seas. The book has accounts and photographs selected from fifty years of search and rescue operations, including several accounts compiled by the author himself, a former Air Warfare Specialist with over 5000 logged P3 Orion hours with the RNZAF. The book includes information on the missing schooner Nina, the infamous Queen's Birthday yacht race in 1994 where several yachts foundered in the Pacific, and ferry disasters in Tonga and Kiribati in recent years.
