Marie Adelaide Elizabeth Rayner Lowndes, was a prolific English novelist. Her most famous novel, The Lodger, based on the Jack the Ripper murders of 1888, has been adapted for the screen five different times; the first movie version was Alfred Hitchcock's silent film The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog: The Lodger is considered as one of all time best adventure novels. Few of her best selling novels are Love and hatred, Barbara Rebell, The Chink in the Armour, What Timmy Did, The Uttermost Farthing, and The Red Cross Barge.
