The Story of the Treasure Seekers

The Story of the Treasure Seekers tells the story of six children, Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel, and Horace Octavius (H. O.) Bastable, and their attempts to assist their widowed father and recover the fortunes of their family; its sequels are The Wouldbegoods and The New Treasure Seekers. The story is told from a child's point of view, Oswald, the narrator. The story starts when their mother dies and their father's business partner runs off with most of their money, the children are determined to restore their family's fallen fortunes, but although they think of many ingenious ways to do so, their well meant efforts are either more fun than profitable, or lead to trouble... Edith Nesbit's first great success was The Story of the Treasure Seekers. Her most celebrated book remains The Railway Children. Her great gift was the ability to create child character's who are real young beings heaving naturally as any child.
