The Castle Of Otranto
Horace Walpole
l Castle of Otranto is a letter written by Horace Walpole novel en1764. It is considered the inaugural text of gothic horror literature, initiating a literary genre that became extremely popular in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. The story is set in Italy during the Middle Ages (the inaugural novel genre "gothic horror" does not elapse during the Gothic period seems to suggest that perhaps "Gothic" is not the most appropriate term to refer to romantic horror) Place the frame in medieval Italy and quote a source outside the author really fictitious, to substantiate the veracity of the story seem to be recurring points in the texts of Walpole. So it does in pieces like the short story Maddalena or The Fate of the Florentines. Do not pay attention to detail, everything is action, shrouded in mystery. This novel will be recovered by surrealism.
