Columbarium
John Moore
Written in 1735 and reprinted in 1765, the original was properly titled "Columbarium: or, The pigeon-house.: Being an introduction to a natural history of tame pigeons. Giving an account of the several species known in England, with the method of breeding them, their distempers and cures" and is credited as having been the first pigeon book ever written in the English language. The original edition was privately printed by Moore two years before his death and is so rare that only six copies are known to still survive. A second edition, under the title of "A Treatise on Domestic Pigeons" was published thirty years later by C. Barry and included in the revision were 12 illustrations not included in the original. This second edition was limited to only 750 copies, of which only a small number still survive and are considered such a rarity that when they do come up on the market, they often sell for thousands of dollars. Offered here is a perfect facsimile of the edition issued by C. Barry, complete with the original illustrations. Note: This edition is a perfect facsimile of the original edition and is not set in a modern typeface. As a result, some type characters and images might suffer from slight imperfections or minor shadows in the page background.
