WWII Through the Eyes of a Child

November 11, 2008 marks the 90th anniversary of WWI in Verdun, France, the town where Monique M. Raguet/Jones was born. The author, after sixty-eight years, is finally enabled to face the pains of her youth and to share them with you. The book is unique in that it delves into the mind and the emotions of a young child as she saw and experienced the atrocities of war. Monique M. Raguet/Jones buried these thoughts and feelings for many years. She was trying to dissipate it, but accepting an opportunity to teach her native language to adults opened inner emotions. Each time she showed a movie about France and Verdun she was better able to express herself and remember more of the past. Encouraged by her students, this story came to fruition. A description of the author's childhood, the evacuation, the invasion of Hitler, living conditions during the four year long siege, the liberation by the allied troops and the FFL, and also the beginning of NATO of which she was privileged to be a part. Envision a very real image of the living conditions endured during that time. Monique shares her innermost feelings as a child from prewar time, prior to 1940 and Germany's invasion to the day she came to the United States of America. It provides readers with a history of times past, almost forgotten, often denied. It is meant to serve as an inspiration for those, particularly children, going through difficult circumstances to service as strength and hope.
