The Turanganui is the shortest river in Aotearoa New Zealand and its waters form at the junction between the Taruheru River and the Waimata River, then flow out to Te Moananui a Kiwa, The Pacific Ocean.
Like the river it is named after, The Turanganui Poets Collective is an online junction where poets from within and outside Turanganui a Kiwa meet. The relative safety of the online community that has been established provides a creative space for all to encourage each other's poetry to grow. The proof is in the diversity of membership who have put their hands up to be included in our book.
The Turanganui Poets Collective began in 2012 as an off-shoot of workshops and poetry reading nights at Unhinged Studios in Cobden Street, Turanganui a Kiwa, Gisborne from 2011 to 2013. Our book is symbolic of the individual dreams of the most vocal among us to eventually have our own published books of poetry. Therefore, it is in some way for each of us a big step toward our individual goals fulfilled. Each individual here has contributed to our social media page which has a steady flow that is reminiscent of our river.
The Poets that feature in our book, in order of appearance are: Lucy Anderson, Joseph Barber, Aaron Compton, Robyn Hancock, Benita Kape, Trish Lambert, Treyci Maynard, Gillian Moon, Shauna Ratapu, Katarina (Bubbles) Reedy, Mary-Rose Reedy, Hugo Robinson, Darcy Spraggs, Tawera Tahuri, and Jo Tito.
