While Gina Lindsey and Chance Marshal enjoy a quiet sunshiny day in NE Washington, searching for a good hunting spot, Gina is suddenly fired upon by unknown assailants. She is wounded in the shoulder. She and Chance escape to the car, but are followed there. When Chance goes on a routine border patrol as his work as a border patrol agent later that day, they stop two people coming illegally across the border from Canada and Chance's partner is shot and almost killed. In the climax, she has to rescue her Aunt Bobbi from the clutches of the gang, and find a way out of the ranch and school, taking one of the young girls with her. Chance and his two friends stake out Boundary Dam where they believe the gang is going to denotate a bomb that will destroy the dam and cast Seattle into darkness, allowing them to take over the government. Chance has to save Gina and also stop the gang from blowing up the dam. The ending holds several suprises as both Gina and Chance discover what they truly need in life and as they find the source of their joy.
