This is a novel about the founding of the Owenby clan in America and how their quest for freedom contributed to the settlement of frontiers from the east to the west coast. The Owenby Clan is forced to flee Wales to escape the penalty of death for killing a tax collector. The clan has a heritage of whiskey making dating back generations. Two brothers and wives Caleb & Catrin, Cadoc & Alwen settle in Virginia during the 1700s to raise their families in the mountains of the American frontier where they continue their tradition of making Owenby Welsh Whiskey. Faced with the struggle to survive Indian wars, a harsh environment and a constant lust for adventure the brothers and offspring are constantly seeking to discover the best frontier locations for their colony. Caleb and his family push west to the next mountain and then the next settling in Kentucky and Ohio. As the decades pass the growing clan members continue to spread westward to Missouri, Arkansas and Texas. Cadoc and his family leave Virginia and go south into Tennessee. As the clan grows members settle in Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana. This first novel focuses on the early days of the clan as they settle the new frontiers in Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Future novels will follow individual Owenby clan members as they seek their fortunes and adventure by moving westward.
