Puppy Love

Sean Sullivan and two of his teenage pals, Sal and Arnie witness a brutal gang fight from up in a tree fort in 1960 at a park near San Francisco. It's a vicious opening chapter. It's also a page turner and pulls the reader into the story. The gory violence the 3 kids see that night is a major turning point in their lives. Sean and his friends begin scheming ways to be popular and cool. Sean is in agony for not having the courage to ask Kathy Svenson, the prettiest girl in school and a cheerleader out on a date. Sean makes the junior varsity football team and gathers the strength to ask Kathy out. After a couple of dates they begin going steady. On his sixteenth birthday, he scores a game winning touchdown and gets his drivers license on the same day. A few days later he buys a '57 Chevy ragtop and begins to soup-up the engine for the Friday night drag races. Saturday nights become hotter when Sean begins pulling his hot rod into lovers' lane with Kathy for some passionate make-out sessions. Graduation is celebrated surfing and hanging ten at a beach party. At midnight, Kathy and Sean are slow dancing romantically around a bonfire. Sean decides to take off for a summer journey with Sal and Arnie to seek out some adventure. Kathy becomes furious when Sean tells her and she threatens to give him back the ring he gave her. Sean relents and agrees to be gone only two weeks. The readership market this story targets are people who attended high school in the late fifties and early sixties. It also has great potential to be adapted into a screenplay or television series. Ralph Steadman would be the perfect artist to draw the illustrations. I seriously believe Bruce Springsteen would be interested in composing the music.
