Stay: the Search Begins

The Intergalactic Council considers the planet earth to be backward with regards to its technology. If Heads of State on earth knew about the technology bought to this planet to allow for safe mind travel, it is believed that they would use it for their own gain. Frank Melton is a reluctant mind traveler who works as an operative for the Intergalactic Council. His task is to find components of the original, dismantled, mind travel machine that could also control minds. If it fell into the wrong hands, then it would be possible to control the minds of planetary Heads of State. Frank accepts the challenge but encounters problems with retrieving the component searched for, and discovers that one of his fellow operatives has an undesirable background. What should he do, quit the team or continue with the program? The story continues in book 2, Stay: All is not what it seems.
