Very few Christians have read the Bible, because it seems to be too long and too complicated, comprising both the Jewish Old Testament and the Christian New Testament. As a result, the teachings of Jesus have come to us in a piecemeal fashion, through ten minute sermons at weekly intervals. Hence, Christianity may be perceived as an old-fashioned convuluted religion. In truth, the teachings of Jesus are to be found in any one of the Four Gospels of the New Testament, so even if we read only the Gospel of Matthew, which is about the same length as a short novel, we will find out exactly what Jesus said and did during his time in Palestine. This book concentrates on what Jesus actually said, which represents the core values of Christianity, and then looks at the modern church, to see if we have allowed the two to diverge over the last two thousand years. We also look at the Holy Land today, the cradle of Christianity, to remind us that Jesus graced us with his presence for thirty three years.
