Hazel Boykin
My Life in Louisiana chronicles Hazel Boykin's own efforts throughout the Civil Rights Movement to create a better world for future generations of African Americans. Instead of enacting a passive stance in her hometown, Boykin organized a multitude of peaceful demonstrations and created organizations in support of equality, involving her own children in the fight. While she advocated publicly, she also overcame her personal hardships: raising her children, holding three jobs, and struggling as a widow. Her inspirational story serves as a testament to what we, as individuals, can accomplish with a passionate heart and a strong will to change the world.
