Wilson and his sons-in-law, James De Barth Shorb and George Smith Patton, Sr., the three volume series records the development of te state of California from its admission into the Union in 1850 to the turn of the 20th century. Volume 1 narrates the Los Angeles arrival of Wilson in 1841. Volume 2 continues the Shorb narrative in 1879. Volume 3, this book, continues the narrative in 1889.
