The FUNK NASTY PHENOMENON is an appropriately complex scientific experiment. N. K. Bwana is conceived as a young boy straight out of the "Heart of Darkness" (Congo, Central Africa) and the entire family is exiled out of Africa escaping certain death as political prisoners. While still back home he is taught English by cassette tapes of FE LA KUTI, PAPA WEMBA, JIMMY CLIFF, and BOB MARLEY. Amazingly, in just a little over two decades NK Bwana ascends to become an author, poet, playwright, performing artist, teacher, lecturer, humanitarian and continued political activist! He enjoys maintaining the complexity of all these unique roles while consistently pushing the envelope of artistic creativity and concrete delivery, uniquely and unmistakably compelling and infecting global varied audiences with the consistent charming Southern California style and swagger that embodies the FUNK NASTY PHENOMENON.
