The Misericordia Hospital Incident
Henry Hall
A large fight took place just after 3 a.m. in the casualty department of the hospital. The author was a member of the Edmonton Police Dept in Edmonton, Canada at the time of this incident. He was off duty but in full uniform, and was going home at 3 a.m. and decided to visit a friend who works at the Misericordia Hospital as a security guard. While there, two intoxicated law students entered the emergency ward and started attacking people. Hall was called in to assist and was himself attacked. A couple of nurses thought he over reacted and there was blood in his attacker's ear. There was talk of a basal skull fracture, although there was no X-ray evidence to prove it. He was charged with assault causing bodily harm. He could have gone to prison for up to ten years. He chose trial by Judge and jury. He was pulled off of the streets and put on a front-end desk job. He had to undergo psychiatric tests before his trial. The book deals mostly with the trial and it's eventual outcome.
