When I learn . . . Surviving Stroke with Pride is one stroke survivor's account of her ordeal with learning through the emotional spiral of stroke and surviving it. The author takes the reader inside the mind of a survivor so that reader can feel as if it was happening to them. It helps the reader understand the turmoil of learning who the 'new me' is when compared to the 'old me.' It deals with the survivor's search to lean what happened to them and understand it. Each chapter depicts different times in her stoke recovery and ends with what she learned from her experience. The book depicts how she felt in her own words. The book gives perspective for survivors, family, and friends to explore. When I learn is not a medical book and is not filled with lots of medical jargon that is hard to understand. It is one survivors attempt to help other survivors put into words (when they may not be able to) how and what is felt after stroke. The author shares her story about how she felt when she was legally blind, couldn't be understood, couldn't read or write and remember. A big portion of the book deals with the trying to learn from the bad and taking the bad and making it good. From all bad comes good but it's up to us to find the good in the bad.
