The Portraits, Prints and Writings of John Milton
George Charles Williamson
John Milton: intellectual, civil servant and one of the greatest poets of his time, was a prolific writer. Although talented and renowned, much of his famous works, such as Paradise Lost, and Methought I Saw My Late Espoused Saint, (a sonnet about his deceased second wife Katherine Woodcock), was written during his blindness. Milton made significant contributions to art and politics, and this book is a tribute to that.
Written by George Charles Williamson (author and British art historian), this book contains several and different aged portraits of Milton, all with significant information about them. There are also pretend portraits of him, so many that according to Williamson, "collectors of prints have long been troubled by the strange and perplexing variety of portraits, said to represent John Milton." You will also find earliest editions of his poems and prose work.
If you are a lover of Milton's works, there's enough information here to delight you.
