In this, no account of other cereals, other tillage, or of the produce of gardens and orchards, which in Tasmania is very considerable, is given. For vegetables its gardens are unrivalled; for the fruits belonging to the temperate zones it cannot be surpassed ; and for its jams, as will be seen by the export list above, it gets a very large amount in the shape of money value. In measure its green fruit export amounted in 1879 to 142,262 bushels, and in weight its jams amounted to 3,915,881 pounds. Section 13.--Counties, cities, toums. The political divisions of Tasmania have English names for the most part. Its counties are Kent, Arthur, Buckingham, Monmouth, and Pembroke in the south; Montgomery, Frankton, Montagu, and Russell in the west; Wellington, Devon, and Dorset in the north; Cornwall and Glanmorgan in the east; and Westmoreland, Lincoln, and Somerset in the centre. Its chief cities or towns--one at each end of the island--Hobart and Launceston, have also English names. Mr. Anthony Trollope took very kindly to Hobart when he was there, and spoke of it as follows :--" It is as pleasant a town of the size as any I know. Nature has done much for it--very much, indeed--and money has done much too. It is beautifully situated, just at the point where river becomes sea. It is surrounded by hills and mountains, from which views can be had which would make the fortune of any district in Europe. And the air of Hobart Town is perfect air.
