The Amistad Argument & The State of The Union Addresses

As an former President, John Quincy Adams defended the African slaves from Sierra Leone in the famous Amistad case (1841-42) before the Supreme Court. This drama was depicted in the recent movie "Amistad" (friendship). President Adams made the comment during this period that he believed we were heading towards a civil war and hoped this would be the last battle of the American Revolution.
