A Little North of Hollywood (Or, Dimly and in Flashes) is a collection of poems written to reflect various points of view inspired by the people L. E. K. Wilson has met while living and working in Los Angeles County. As she explains in the preface, "This book is about the dreamers, those who move to Hollywood to find and follow their calling. They are precious souls, noble and persevering. I hope I have been able to capture a few of their opinions, some of their experiences, and a little of their yearning, contradictory as it may be, at times hungry for success in the film industry, at times lonely for their hometowns, which, in many cases, have been decimated by the economy or natural disaster. The folks I have profiled here, then, are those who are caught, wedged as it were, just short of conquering their discipline, but with no real place to go home to." L. E. K. Wilson is a poet living in Southern California. She teaches writing at Pepperdine University in Malibu where she has also directed the MFA program. She edits the creative writing journal Review Americana and holds a Ph. D. in American literature and film studies from the graduate university at The Claremont Colleges.
