This series considers theoretical, methodological and research issues relevant to organizational sociology. This volume presents an examination of organizations which is cross-cultural, covering all areas of cultural diversity and spanning countries, generations and identities.

It is specifically concerned with trying to specify the unique contributions of broad sociological theories and research techniques to the analysis of organizations. Both micro and macro sociological approaches are emphasized. From a micro perspective an effort is made to bring to the forefront such perspectives as phenomenology, ethnomethodology and symbolic interaction. The macro analysis also places an emphasis on the institutional, historical and cultural examination of organizations. An effort is made to use this series as a forum for the presentation of theories and research which challenge conventional views of organizational sociology. covering all areas of cultural diversity and spanning countries, generations and identities.
Contributor Bio: Bamberger, Peter A Peter A. Bamberger s research focuses on peer relations and helping processes in the workplace, employee emotional wellbeing, and compensation strategy. Co-author of Human Resource Strategy (with Ilan Meshulam Sage, 2000) and Mutual Aid and Union Renewal (with Samuel Bacharach and William Sonnenstuhl, Cornell Univ. Press, 2001), Bamberger has published over 70 referred journal articles in such journals as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review and Journal of AppliedPsychology. He served as Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Journal from 2007-2010. Contributor Bio: Bacharach, Samuel B Samuel B. Bacharach (New York, NY) is the McKelvey-Grant professor in the Department of Organizational Behavior at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. In the past he has chaired the Department of Organizational Behavior and is currently director of Cornell's New York City-based Institute for Workplace Studies. He has been published in several major academic journals in management, organizational behavior, and industrial relations, including Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, and Journal of Human Resource Management.
