100 Parks For 100 Years

How things can change over 100 years. From a fledgling department in 1916 to a massive management operation in 2016, the National Park Service oversees 400+ park units, for the enjoyment by all. To celebrate the centennial anniversary I created a plan to walk, hike, drive, and fly to 100 parks. The excitement of the odyssey pushed me to a final count of 117. This book is a compilation of those travels. How did I arrive at each park? Were there entrance/parking fees? When was each park unit authorized? What is there to see and do? A large part of each chapter focuses on the history and significance of the respective park unit.
To add some flavor to the mix, a related story about Baseball is included in each chapter. A guess as to whether someone can catch a baseball thrown from the top of the Washington Monument? It has been tried. Chapter 26 has the result.
Not to be left out of the mix is the NPS's Passport Cancellation Stamp program. Which cancellation stamps can be found at each park? You may be surprised at the answers.
If one is looking for short stories on 117 of America's historical and natural treasures, and America's oldest favorite sport, this 416-page book is sure to provide hours of enjoyable reading.
