I Wanna Play For You
Stanley Clarke
This album is a mixture of live and studio recordings. The title song starts out as an classic Clarke bass vamp and goes into a hard piano (George Duke) and female choral vocal (DeeDee Bridgewater) based funk stomp. "The Streets Of Philadelphia" finds Clarke vocally musing on his home city featuring Lee Ritenour on guitar and Stan Getz on the tenor sax. The brief "Blues for Mingus" is a wry salute from one master bassist to another (Mingus died about 6 months before this album's release). "Jamaican Boy" is a bouncing melodic mix of jazz/funk with a strong Caribbean reggae/calypso rhythm featuring Jeff Beck on guitar.
