An elevator (or lift) is a vertical transport vehicle that efficiently moves people or goods between floors of a building. They are generally powered by electric motors that either drive traction cables and counterweight systems, or pump hydraulic fluid to raise a cylindrical piston. Speech recognition is used in this book for operating the elevator system by just giving and matching the voice commands. So the push buttons need not be used. Voice commands like ?one ?, ?two? and ?three? are used to move the elevator to a particular destination floor. A seven segment display is used to indicate the destination floor number. Speech to text conversion is done on the voice signal which is the input of the smart elevator system to provide the input to the seven segment display. Passive infrared sensors are used to count the number of the people entering the elevator enclosure. It is used for avoiding overloading problem. A text to speech conversion module is used to provide voice alerts in ?The Voice Based Smart Elevator System?. The voice alert system specifies the destination floor number on reaching the respective destination floor
