From an upper-class, staunchly Indian-Catholic family in Portuguese India, Mimi Correia-Afonso Desai's marriage to a Gujarati Hindu from Tanzania moved her in 1959 from one continent to another and from one culture to another entirely alien. Disowned by her family and faced with the vitriolic reaction of her husband's community, she remembers her years in Tanzania - her joys, pains and struggles in her personal and professional life, resulting from her leap into the unknown, into the deep end of a very deep pool.
